heres another high competion coon set

this one I call the easy coon set.

most of us have seen old tire rims laying around where we trap, be it a creek or woods or along the fence rows. if you have them on your line put them to use ;)

( I had to use the spare off the truck for the pics since all my rims are out on the line where they stay)

The first step is to take your trap, I use a #2 double longspring for this set most of the time and set it where you want to make the set. I don't anchor the trap when using the #2. put your bait next to the trap and
[image]

then take the rim and set it over the trap so the pan is dead center over the hole in the rim
[image]

thats all there is to the easiest coon set out there, I use the rim as an anchor for the trap, make sure you trap wont come thru the hole in the rim before making this set ;D. and if a coon does run off with the rim on his foot he wont be far ;D even though I don't want to meet up with a coon thats big enough to move a tire rim

good luck and I hope my little tricks and tips will help put more fur in the shed this fall :)

the rims with the small hub holes work best ;D and if your using coilsprings, make sure the trap wont go thru the hole ;)

That is a really neat idea. In the area I trap, there are lots of abandoned tires, but none are on the rims. Any ideas of how I can use these tires to make sets?

A PIECE of plywood with a hole cut in it works just as well.just cut what you need and place out before season.just dig a trap bed that the trap will lay in and make it deep enuff that the jaws just clear the ply wood.this will also be dog proof and give the coon some thing to chew on.

actually bill, if you make that set with toung and groove boards, they will fall apart when the coon pulls on the trap, and after he has played with them for awhile he will end up throwing them out of reach so he can't chew them up. so they can be used again.

that was my next set I was going to post when I got a chance to make one
