yes the pole should be set at a 45 degree angle.the loop should be 3 inches,spaced aprox 3 feet apart.the size of cable is 1/32 (squirrel,pine martin) or 3/64 for Squirrel,mink and rabbit.these snares can be shortened and set even closer .just make sure it's legal and make sure you check several times due to birds of prey getting the Squirrel .

I got a picture of a Squirrel Pole I'll have to get It uploaded and post It, They work Great for putting some Meat on the Table, William has It descibed right on the money, If you Google Search Squirrel Pole you'll see some picture's also,
